Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas produced by burning fuels like gas, oil, wood, and charcoal. Because you can’t see or smell it, it’s easy to overlook, but it can appear anywhere combustion occurs.

𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀.

At home:

Install CO alarms on every level and near all sleeping areas.

Test them monthly.

At work or school:

Make sure maintenance staff check HVAC systems, furnaces, and water heaters regularly.

While traveling:

Bring a portable CO detector when staying in cabins, RVs, or rentals.

In vehicles:

Never idle your car in a garage, even with the door open.

Outdoors:

Keep generators, grills, and heaters at least 20 feet from windows or doors.
